Who are we?

The Mexican Institute of fiber-industries, (IMFI), is a non-profit organization, established in 1989, that has brought together the leading companies that use chrysotile fiber in the production processes. Our mission is to promote the safe and responsible use of this fiber.

We constitute the Mexico chapter of the largest international associations that promote the use of chrysotile: The Latin American Institute of Chrysotile (ILARCRI) based in Brazil, and the International Chrysotile Association (ICA), based in Quebec, Canada.

We are a consulting and information source for our members and Government, as well as Unions, Universities, Medical Societies, business associations, civil society organizations, to name a few, among whom we provide information about safety measures for the use of chrysotile, promote studies and delivering technological and scientific advances in the use of chrysotile.

IMFI does not support the use of amphibole asbestos that are dangerous and generate health risks. We do not promote the use of substitute fibers, because it has been proven that it requires more than 50 different supplies for fairly replace chrysotile fibers.
